To give some context to the work carried out over the last three years - presented in this report - we should first go over a few figures. Within the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country there is currently 5.5 million tonnes of waste generated annually, mostly from industry, with a recycling and recovery rate of 48%. These figures on their own hide important information. The materials currently sent to landfill exceed an economic value of 44 million euros annually. Innovative solutions will be needed if we are to take advantage of these resources - solutions which also facilitate access for our businesses to a global recycling market which has an annual growth rate of 11%.
