This publication describes the principles of life-cycle analysis (LCA) and the carbon footprint as applied to measuring and assessing the environmental performance of a product. The points covered for both concepts include their main characteristics, the relevant regulatory frameworks, the steps involved in applying them and a list of tools and databases available on the market for implementing them. The guide is a supplement to the ECO-IT software tool which is used precisely to apply these two concepts in the products of industrial firms in the Basque Country.
