The carbon footprint of organisations, also called the corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, measures GHG emissions from all of an organisation’s activities. 

The most widely used methodology for calculating the corporate carbon footprint is that defined by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) in "Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard "1. The GHG Protocol is a multi-stakeholder partnership of businesses, non-governmental organisations, governments and others convened by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).
Launched in 1998, the initiative’s mission is to develop internationally accepted greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting and reporting standards and calculators and to promote their adoption in order to achieve a low-emission economy worldwide. Based on the GHG Protocol methodology, the international UNE EN ISO 14064-1:2012 Standard was developed. Due to its international nature, this is the standard chosen by the Basque Government to deploy the calculation of the carbon footprint in the Basque Country.

Since March 2023, the Climate&Circularity Calculator tool has been available, the first to allow you to calculate the carbon footprint, environmental footprint and circular economy indicators with an organizational approach, as well as the carbon footprint and simplified life cycle analysis with a product and service approach. All this in an integrated way, with the same initial information.
