Ihobe, as an exemplary and innovative public organisation, works closely with public administrations, companies, and citizens to promote environmental improvement activities in the Basque Country. We seek to become an environmental benchmark in the Basque Country and contribute towards the international positioning of the Basque Country as an advanced region in sustainability and environmental friendliness. Our activities are aligned with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, embodied in the Euskadi Basque Country 2030 Agenda. We adopt a comprehensive and transformative approach to encourage sustainable human development.
To achieve these goals we adopt advanced corporate governance practices at Ihobe, managing our resources responsibly and efficiently, and promoting safe and healthy working conditions. We strive to minimise risks and seize opportunities, while complying with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. We also promote equal treatment and normalise the use of the Basque language, ensuring our team develops professionally while guaranteeing its satisfaction. We maintain a sustainable and transparent relationship with our suppliers and customers based on trust and continuous communication. We also promote innovation and creativity as part of our identity to ensure a competitive and sustainable future.
To do so, we integrate and address the expectations and demands of the different stakeholders and we use this Corporate Policy to carry out our activity in line with the following four pillars:

Governance of the Entities, Companies and Foundations of the Public Sector of the Basque Autonomous Community”. This Guide established a strategy to make the information and management of public institutions more accessible and transparent to the general public and stakeholders. Accordingly, Ihobe makes several corporate and management documents available to society in general, as part of our progress towards good responsible governance (*available in Spanish):
The Basque Government’s public environmental management company, Ihobe, has formalised its commitment to the environment and sustainability by adhering to the European EMAS regulation.
Throughout 2023, Ihobe has strengthened its commitment to sustainability and environmental protection, aligning itself with the most recent European regulatory guidelines. During this period, we have made significant progress in several key areas, consolidating our role as a benchmark in environmental management in the Basque Country.
Ihobe is immersed in the implementation of its III Equality Plan after the II Plan ended in 2017.
The achievements of the latter include recognition as a “Collaborating Entity in Equality” by the Basque Institute for Women-Emakunde; the active participation in the “Public Entities for Equality Network" and the "Bai Sarea” network; the launch of a pilot scheme to “incorporate the gender perspective in Ihobe projects”, or contracting women who are victims of gender-based violence through the Emaktiva programme, an experience recognised as a Emakunde and Euskalit best practice.
As a result of running the II Equality Plan, work has also begun on defining equality procurement clauses to be included in the procurements processes of this entity.
