The European Commission visits the Pyrenees and meets with Basque authorities to learn about the progress of the Pyrenees4Clima project
One year after the Pyrenees4Clima project got underway, European Commission representatives have visited several of its pilot studies in the Aragonese and French Pyrenees; the goal was to discover first-hand how the climate change adaptation measures are being rolled out in the territory.
The visit brought to an end the technical meeting held in Jaca, where the 48 project partners – including Ihobe, Neiker, Hazi, BC3 and Naturklima representing the Basque Country – shared the progress made in 2025.
Pyrenees4Clima, approved by the LIFE programme, has a €20 million budget and will run until 2031. Its goal is to improve the climate change resilience of the mountain territories by means of cross-border cooperation, knowledge transfer and the deployment of innovative solutions. It is in line with the Pyrenees Climate Change Strategy (EPiCC), a trailblazer in Europe thanks to its collaborative approach between Spain, France and Andorra.
The visited projects included: in Canfranc, strengthening the protective role of forests against avalanches and landslides; in Biescas, the initiative to diversify farming with aromatic plants and fruit trees; in the Nay Valley (Nouvelle-Aquitaine), the local water agreement driven by AUDAP; in Hoz de Jaca, the territory safekeeping agreements led by SEO/BirdLife.
