The stand “Euskadiko Itun Berdea” returns to Bioterra to mobilize basque citizens in the face of the climate and energy challenge
alex-boto-bioterra-enThis was expressed by the Director General of Ihobe, Alexander Boto, during the opening ceremony of the fair, where he congratulated the organization on its 20th anniversary and "for consolidating this event as a benchmark forum for sustainability in the region, with a focus on citizens and changing habits in the face of the necessary energy and climate transition." Bioterra also holds the Erronka Garbia certification awarded by Ihobe, which validates it as an environmentally sustainable event.

The Basque Country was one of the first European regions to commit to climate neutrality in July 2019, and both the institutions and the citizens actively participate in climate action. The Basque Energy Agency and Ihobe aim to reflect the need to intensify both public policies and individual actions. The climate crisis and the energy challenge are two of the main challenges society faces within the short and long term. In this context, the Basque Government brings the spirit of the European Green Deal to the Basque Country as a mechanism to promote a way out of the crisis and achieve a more inclusive and sustainable development.

The “Euskadiko Itun Berdea” booth, which can be visited at Ficoba, encourages taking action against the energy challenge and decarbonization through everyday gestures. These small daily decisions, along with more substantial measures, represent significant progress towards making the Basque Country a carbon-neutral territory by 2050.

Similarly, the booth will also have specific panels to announce the upcoming activities planned in Ekoetxea, the network of environmental centers in the Basque Country. Indeed, on the occasion of World Environment Day, celebrated every June 5th, the Ekoetxea network centers have organized clean-up events to remove waste from their natural areas. The event will take place on the weekend of June 10th and 11th, and it is already possible to register and reserve a spot. All information is available at www.ekoetxea.eus.
